Pharmacy Technician Requirements at Southwest Virginia Community College

Admission Requirements: In addition to the general admission requirements to the College, applicants must be high school graduates or the equivalent and must have one unit of Algebra.

Program Requirements: Upon admission and during the course of the program, the College and the clinical affiliate will observe and evaluate the progress of the student. If the student does not exhibit professional behavior, the student will be asked to withdraw from the program. Students are required to have a background check from the Department of State Police by the completion of the first semester.

Academic Program Requirements: Students who receive a final grade lower than “C” in any course will not receive a certificate until a grade of “C” or better is obtained.

Financial Requirements: In addition to tuition and books, it is the responsibility of the student to furnish his own transportation to the clinical area.Course

Pharmacy Technology Professional at North Idaho College

The Pharmacy Technology program, an Allied Health program, prepares graduates for positions working under the supervision of a licensed and registered pharmacist in retail and institutional pharmacy practice settings. Students completing the program will have a basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, pharmacy law, and the therapeutic classification and use of the top 200 prescription drugs. Students will develop skills in pharmaceutical preparation, maintaining patient profiles or records, sterile products preparation, performing stock procedures, communication and presentation, and computer use to enter, store, and recall patient information.

The Pharmacy Technology program is a selective admissions program, which is explained below. Approximately 12-16 students are admitted to the program each Fall Semester. Course requirements prior to the technical pharmacy courses are open to all students who meet specific course prerequisites. The Technical Certificate can be obtained in an 11-month course of study.

Community Pharmacy Technician Certificate Requirements at Midlands Technical College

Acceptable admission criteria:

HOBET 50 composite percent (minimum reading 50 percent) and MTC writing sample score of 30; or

SAT 910 (minimum verbal 430) and MTC writing sample score of 30; or

ACT 19 (minimum verbal 18) and MTC writing sample score of 30; or

Successful completion of the Pre-Health Care certificate with a 2.5 GPA and ā€œCā€ or higher in each course.

Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher for all coursework completed upon entry into program.

High school diploma or equivalent

High school or college credits in mathematics/science (algebra, biology, chemistry) recommended

Typing skills (recommended)

Drug record check for drug-related convictions

Current first-aid certification at time of program entry
